The traveller's guide

💡 Motorhomer's tips for the region

🔄 Free entries & exits
From the site, come and go as often as you like: your pitch stays reserved by a dedicated bollard for your whole stay. Ideal for exploring without losing your spot.
🚌 Leave the van, take the bus
For Perpignan and Collioure, the easiest option is to leave the motorhome at the site: the bus network reaches the centre for a few euros, with no parking or height hassles.
🏖️ Collioure: definitely no motorhome in the centre
Collioure's lanes are narrow and off-limits to large vehicles. Head for the site/park-and-ride (shuttle ≈ €10/24h) or come by regional train / bus from Argelès.
⚠️ Cap Béar closed — go via Paulilles
The Cap Béar road has been closed to traffic since 2024. For the wild Côte Vermeille, park at the Anse de Paulilles car park (D914) and walk the coastal path.
🏔️ Lac des Bouillouses: shuttle compulsory in summer
In high season, the mountain road is closed to vehicles during the day. A shuttle runs up from Mont-Louis / La Llagonne: essential to plan ahead with a motorhome.
🚂 Train Jaune 2026: check the line
Following a rockfall at Thuès-Carança, in 2026 the Train Jaune runs only between Mont-Louis-La Cabanasse and Latour-de-Carol. Check ter.sncf.com before planning the excursion.
🛣️ Gorges de Galamus: not for large vehicles
The cliff road is narrow and carved into the rock face. Leave the motorhome in the car parks at either end of the gorge and walk the section on foot.
📏 Watch out for height barriers
Many town-centre car parks have a height barrier under 2.10 m. Scout out « bus / HGV » or outer car parks in advance, and use a service-area app (Park4night, CC Park…).
💧 Fill up before the mountains
Before heading up to the Conflent, Cerdagne or Vallespir, fill up with water and empty your tanks at the site: services are scarcer at altitude.
🗓️ The best season
July-August = sun, sea and entertainment, but also heat and crowds. Spring and autumn are perfect for the villages, the Cathar castles and hiking.
🇪🇸 Hop across the Spanish border
Llívia, Figueres, Cadaqués, the Cap de Creus… Spain is within easy reach. Bring an ID card or passport. No emissions sticker required, but watch out for the low-emission zones of big cities (Barcelona).
🌙 Parking ≠ camping
On service areas and car parks, you park: no tables, awnings or levelling chocks set out beyond designated areas. Be considerate of neighbours and leave the place clean when you go.
